Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Asks for Help for Naga Residents
LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President appealed for pump boats to help rescue the residents trapped by flood in Naga.
The Philippines is one of the countries across the globe usually hit by typhoons that result to flood. Currently, Tropical Storm Kristine is bringing heavy rains and strong winds in several areas in the country.
Naga City in Camarines Sur is one of those that are greatly affected by Tropical Storm Kristine. The heavy rains in the city have resulted to flooding that submerged residential properties and buildings in flood water. Kristine is causing class suspensions for several days now in several areas.
There are even several social media posts affirming that many residents in Naga were trapped due to the deep flood that reached the rooftop of several houses in the city. There are already several calls for help for the residents of Naga.
Former Vice President Leni Robredo who hails from Naga City is one of those who are calling for rescue for the residents who were trapped in their houses due to flood. The former VP appealed for pump boats.
According to former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, some people were stuck in the roof of their houses for several hours now due to flood. The former VP also stated in her social media post that many of their rescue trucks have been stalled:
Tropical Storm Kristine has turned several low-lying areas in Naga City into gushing rivers. Thousands of people were forced to be evacuated into safer grounds. Aside from former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, the local government of Naga also appealed for help for the residents affected by flood.
According the Naga LGU, they are in need of “trucks and assets from the government and private sector that can navigate floodwaters between three to six feet deep”. The local government also said that individuals who want to extend assistance through vehicles that are capable of assisting the conditions may immediately proceed to the Incident Management Team at the Public Safety Office, City Hall Compound.
In a previous weather advisory, Camarines Sur along with several other regions in Bicol are under Signal No. 2. While the storm is expected to make a landfall either Wednesday or Thursday, it started hitting the province in Tuesday causing some canals to overflow.
In Pili town, there are also several residential properties and eateries that were submerged in floodwater. The Philippine Coast Guard has deployed some of its men in areas experiencing flooding.
