PARTS OF LETTER WRITING – Here is a guide on the different parts of a letter and the example under each part.

One of the most important things in an office, in school, in a personal matter, and many other instances is a letter. It is needed in applying for a job, requesting for a document, writing a travel letter, informing a person or entity, communication, and a lot more.

The heading consists of the contact information of the sender of the letter. It contains the name of the company, the office address, and the phone number in the case of business letters. Here’s an example:

This part of the letter is reflective of the exact date when the letter was written. It should be written in a specific format such as the following and in the right corner of the letter excluding the margin area:

July 18, 1992

Also one of the basic parts of letter writing is the Addressee Information or also called the “Inside Address”. It contains the title, the company, and the full address where the letter will be sent. Here’s an example:

This part of the letter is made of two (2) parts — the word of welcome and the individuals name or a formal salutation. Here is an example:

Dear Dr. Lordan,

This is the most popular among the parts of letter writing. It contains the message that you want to convey to the recipient of the letter. It is usually composed of three (3) parts that center on the following:

  • First Paragraph — This is the introduction part which contains the intention behind writing a letter
  • Second Paragraph — This provides more information and specific details in a logical order.
  • Third Paragraph — This is the closing section of the letter.

This part of the letter contains three (3) sub-parts — the complimentary close, handwritten signature, and the name of the sender. Here’s an example:
