Jen Barangan – From Concert Pet Peeve Issue To “Minimalist” Apology

Content creator Jen Barangan faces backlash online.

Online personality Jen Barangan faces critical comments following her actions at a concert and how she apologized for it.

We all want to live freely according to what we want and to have the freedom to decide what is best for us. Shafer Landau’s Desire Satisfaction Theory expresses that the satisfaction of a man in life is achieved by satisfying or fulfilling one’s desires in life. contrary to this concept is what some of us have already probably heard, “Your right ends, when the rights of others begin”.

This concept is acknowledging your rights for equality but not in a generalized manner that makes the rights of others disregarded. In a concert setting, the people are all entitled to watch the artists in the best way possible but there comes the conflict where others do so much that it is already affecting other people’s experience. We all have our rights but in this setup, there are also rules to follow and one of them is the use of flash.

Using flash is prohibited but while everyone is doing it, must you also do it for the sake of documenting your experience? What about the rules? What about the rights of others? Where must you draw the line between recording your best experience and giving people their right to have an undistracted experience?

Jen Barangan is currently trending online. In the recent concert she attended, she was using this flash on her face obviously distracting the people behind her. She was not the only one doing this but since she is an online influencer and famous, she was called out.

Many people criticized her but in one of the comments, she made a reply, to which to some, was sarcastic.

The issue went viral online and addressing this issue, she made this “minimal” apology. It appeared insincere to many and the shorter it was the more reason people found it reeking with entitlement and lack of accountability. It also gave others the impression that she was not open to be corrected and not open in accepting her mistake.

Here’s her apology:
