Two individuals helped prevent the attacker from escaping and immediately turned him over to the authorities.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect had previously rented a room from Madrid. The altercation started over a P400 debt, which Madrid owed him for unpaid water bills. The two had been in a disagreement about this, with the issue already being brought to the attention of local officials in Barangay Batasan Hills.

“Lumalabas na itong biktima ay mayroong pagkakautang dito sa suspek na dating nangungupahan sa kanyang bahay. Kasalukuyan mayroon siyang dinidinig na kaso dito sa Barangay Batasan,” Station Investigation and Detective Management Unit Police Captain Ronnie Ereño said.

The victim’s partner, Jonathan Cajuto, was brokenhearted that such a minor amount could lead to such a tragic outcome. He shared that the debt in question was for P400 worth of unpaid water expenses.

The suspect, now in police custody, admitted to the crime, explaining that his frustration over the unpaid bills had escalated. He also mentioned that Madrid became angry when confronted, which triggered the violent act.

The man has been charged with murder and is currently held at the CIDU of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in Camp Karingal.
