A Grade 11 student identified as Ren Joseph Bayan reportedly lost his life in an alleged hazing incident.
An 18-year-old student from Nueva Ecija has died, allegedly due to a hazing incident. The victim was reportedly involved in a fraternity hazing when the tragic event happened.
On Sunday evening (September 29, 2024), Ren Joseph’s aunt informed the local police in Jaen that her nephew had died. According to her, Ren Joseph mentioned that he was going to undergo a “final hazing” in San Leonardo, a nearby town, as part of his fraternity initiation.
Around 5 p.m. during that day, witnesses confirmed that the fraternity members brought Ren Joseph’s lifeless body back to their home in Barangay San Pablo, Jaen.
The Jaen Municipal Police have asked for assistance from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to perform an autopsy and officially determine the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing to gather further details about the hazing and those involved.
Ren Joseph was a student at San Pablo National High School, and the school community expressed their sorrow over the loss.
“Lubos na ipinagdadalamhati ng komunidad ng San Pablo National High School ang pagpanaw ng isa sa ating mga mag-aaral na si REN JOSEPH BAYAN ng Grade 11-TVL,” the school said.
The school offered condolences to the family and prayed for peace and comfort during this difficult time.
“Ipinaaabot ng SPNHS ang taos-pusong pakikiramay para sa kaniyang naiwang pamilya, gayundin ang marubdob na panalangin na makamit niya ang kapayapaan at kapahingahan kasama ang Poong Maykapal,” it added.
The authorities are working to identify the suspects, and the public is once again reminded of the dangers associated with hazing practices. The family and school are now left grieving the tragic loss of the victim.
