Update on Doc Willie Ong amid Cancer Fight
DOC WILLIE ONG – The cardiologist explained why he does not want people to pray for him despite his cancer battle.
The sarcoma cancer diagnosis of Doc Willie shocked a lot of people. The cardiologist who was also a vice presidential candidate in the 2022 Elections is fighting a rare type of cancer. A 16-centimeter mass was found “deeply hidden” behind his heart, in front of his spine.
Sarcoma is one of the cancer types that is very hard to treat as per Doc Willie. He was also told by his doctors that they cannot perform an operation on his lump as too many blood vessels are attached to it.
Doc Willie Ong is currently undergoing chemotherapy in Singapore. Aside from the doctors and nurses that handle him abroad, he is taken cared of by his wife, Dra. Liza Ramoso-Ong.
Prior to running for a position in the government, Doc Willie gained prominence in the Philippines for his health videos that contained tips in preventing and fighting certain health conditions. He has millions of followers on social media.
Previously, in an interview with Jessica Soho, Doc Willie Ong shared that there is a 50-50 prognosis on his cancer. According to the cardiologist, he has a 50% chance of living a few more months to a year and a 50% chance of dying anytime.
Countless prayers and messages of love and support poured for Doc Willie and his family. However, the cardiologist does not really want people to pray for him. He explained it in his recent video on YouTube.
Doc Liza Ramoso-Ong thanked everyone who prayed for her husband. However, according to Doc Willie,
“Actually ayoko nga nagdadasal sila sa akin, eh. To be honest, ayokong nagdadasal kayo sa’kin. Gusto ko magdasal kayo sa sarili niyo, magdasal kayo sa anak ninyo, sa kaaway ninyo, sa magulang ninyo, okay na ako. Isang tao lang naman ako,” Doc Willie said.
The cardiologist advised the people to just pray for themselves and their neighbors as he is already okay. According to him, it can be told if he is getting well or not as chemo is a cycle that they have to finish but he can see improvements in his condition.
Doc Willie stressed that he recently had two (2) bad days due to the side effects of chemo but he is stronger today. He also claimed his speculation that the mass is possibly reducing in size because the pain he felt is not as much as like before.
“Less na po ‘yung manas, ‘yung paninilaw ni Doc Willie na lessen na lahat,” Doc Liza said.
In his vlog, Doc Willie Ong shared that he is now down to 64 kilos in weight and he feels that his interior vena cava is less tighter. His varicose is also gone. Doc Liza Ong jested that her husband also lost his hair which Doc Willie said is a “side effect”.
Aside from cancer, Doc Willie previously went critical for 4 days due to neutropenic sepsis.
