This is why James Reid decided to cut the connection with Jeffrey Oh.
Actor-singer James Reid recently came forward to speak about the termination of Jeffrey Oh from his company Careless Music.
Last year, reports about Korean-American businessman Jeffrey Oh being arrested surfaced. Reportedly, he was not authorized to put up a business in the Philippines due to lack of documents. He also failed to present documents and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration when the authorities demanded.
Nadine Lustre reacted to Oh’s arrest based on a previous article. She has worked with him and what happened was unfortunate. However, she refused to elaborate as she was no longer involved with them.
Recently, Careless Music CEO James Reid came forward and confirmed that Oh has been terminated from the management company.
A notice from Manila Bulletin said that “effective as of July 2 2024, Jeffrey Hwamok Oh, had ceased all official connections with Careless Holdings Ltd, Careless Music Manila, Inc., Careless Productions OPC, Island City Music PH OPC, Premiere Private Label Inc”.
Reid confirmed this and according to him, the problems started to arise when he was arrested and detained by the Bureau of Immigration due to lack of legal documents and permits to work in the Philippines.
Because of this happening, he sought legal advice and his lawyer Atty. Rodel de Guzman recommended removing Oh from the operations due to questionable business practices, lack of permits, and others.
There were a lot of ground but the most basic was Oh’s nationality being a foreigner in this country. As for the questionable business practices, he accordingly “tried to run the company on his own and represented himself in so many ways, that is not in accordance with legal practices”.
These and more have put Reid’s company at a lot of risk. Regarding the questionable business practices, Reid said, “Yes, but you know, he had a way of evading everything. And, uh, delaying. Delaying everything when it came to contracts, when it came to agreements, when it came to a lot of things. He had a way of delaying it.”
As per him, Oh’s role in the company is more on being a consultant, not the CEO. He is not a part of the corporation but in some transactions, he presented himself as the CEO.
He added, “I always had a bad feeling. I always had, you know. Hunch, but I trusted him.”
So when things started to get complicated, he moved to protect himself, the artists, and his company. He did the right thing.
