Valenzuela Court Approves Mayor Alice Guo Senate Hearing Appearance on September 17
ALICE GUO – A Valenzuela court has approved the dismissed mayor Alice Guo to attend the investigation of the Senate committee on women scheduled on Tuesday.
After the arrest of former Mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia, the ex-mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, who faces allegations of illegal involvement in POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators), has been handed over to Philippine authorities. She was located and apprehended by Indonesian authorities in a rented apartment in Jakarta.
The 34-year-old politician is currently under the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Initially, she was supposed to be held by the Senate, but a graft case filed against her in Tarlac changed her custody status. Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla believes she should be placed under the Bureau of Immigration’s custody.
Based on a report from Inquirer, a Valenzuela court has granted permission for Alice Guo to attend the Senate committee on women’s investigation, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
According to an order released to the media on Monday afternoon, the Valenzuela Regional Trial Court Branch 282 allowed Guo, also known as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, to appear before the Senate committee hearing on September 17, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., upon the request of Senator Risa Hontiveros, head of the panel.
“Acting on the letter request of Senate committee on women, children, family relations and gender equality, and recognizing the Senate’s power to conduct inquiries in aid of legislation, accused Alice Guo a.k.a Guo Hua Ping is hereby allowed to attend the joint public hearing of the committee on women, children, family relations and gender equality on September 17, 2024, at 9:00 o’clock in the morning,” the order reads.
“The Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Facility is hereby directed to bring accused Alice Guo a.k.a Guo Hua Ping to the said public hearing,” it adds.
The Valenzuela court further directed the PNP to give rigorous security when transporting Guo to the Senate and to present the court with a written report detailing the moment the expelled mayor of Bamban was returned to the PNP detention center.
