DOJ Chief Boying Remulla Believes Alice Guo Custody Must Be Under Immigration Bureau
ALICE GUO – The Bureau of Immigration confirmed that the former Mayor faces deportation charges for misrepresentation and undesirability.
The arrest of former Mayor Guo in Indonesia sparked countless headlines much more than her departure did. Undeniably, after the authorities failed to locate her in all her registered addresses for more than a month since the Senate arrest order was released, many people were expecting that she might have left the Philippine already.
The departure of former Mayor Guo from the Philippines was announced by Senator Risa Hontiveros. Reportedly, the former Mayor went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia then allegedly met her family in Singapore and then went to Indonesia.
In Indonesia, Alice Guo’s supposed sister, Shiela Guo, and Cassandra Li Ong, were detained and sent back to the Philippines. Shiela was brought to the Senate while Cassandra is under the House of Representatives.
Shiela denied that she is a bioligical sister of Alice. Cassandra also denied that she and Alice are friends or business partners. According to the alleged representative of the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in Porac, Pampanga, she only knows the former Mayor as the sister of her boyfriend, Wesley.
The turn-over of the custody of Alice took a speedy note. She was flown back to the Philippines after a few hours since she was arrested. Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Rommel Marbil were among those who flew abroad for the turn-over of Guo’s custody.
Currently, the custody of former Mayor Alice Guo is under the PNP. Supposedly, she will be detained in the Senate as the upper chamber was the first to release an arrest order. However, charges were filed against her by a Tarlac court.
The authorities said that while she has yet to post bail, she will be under the custody of the PNP. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla believes that the custody of the former Mayor must be under the immigration bureau.
“Kung may dapat magde-detain kay Alice Guo it should be the Bureau of Immigration. An Immigration case should take precedence over everything. Non-bailable yan,” Remulla said.
Based on the report, the Bureau of Immigration also said that former Mayor Alice Guo faces deportation charges of misrepresentation and undesirability. Currently, the former Mayor remains under the custody of the PNP.
According to Remulla, they await the response of the Office of the Ombudsman. The DOJ Chief said that they wrote to the Ombudsman to seek clarification on the graft case filed against Guo.
