Gibo Teodoro Calls Rumored Resignation “Fake News”
GIBO TEODORO – Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. denied resignation rumors and reveals he’s not running in 2025.
Gilbert Teodoro is a well-known Filipino politician and lawyer who has held various important roles in the Philippine government, including Secretary of National Defense and a seat in the House of Representatives.
He is recognized for his contributions to defense and security, along with his participation in several legislative efforts. Teodoro has also run for president and has played a key role in influencing Philippine policy and governance.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Gilberto Teodoro Jr. dismissed rumors about his resignation on Thursday, calling it “fake news” and clarifying that he had no intention of leaving his post. He emphasized that he had no plans to run in the 2025 midterm elections, as his focus remained on fulfilling his duties as defense secretary.
During a visit to military bases in Palawan, Teodoro reiterated his commitment to President Marcos to enhance the Armed Forces of the Philippines through the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept, reorganize the Department of National Defense (DND) for greater efficiency, and ready the military for external defense responsibilities.
“That is my commitment to the President and the people of the Philippines, to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Marcos, in an interview in Navotas City ahead of his birthday, laughed off the rumors when asked about Teodoro’s alleged resignation.
“Really? There’s news that Secretary Teodoro has resigned? Really? First of all, I will address that question. That is fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake news,” he said.
He added that any government or Cabinet changes would be announced by Malacañang, not by outsiders speculating.
BBM added that he even talked to Teodoro about the rumor. “We couldn’t help but laugh over it. I called him up this morning and asked, ‘I heard you’re resigning.’ He replied, ‘Why? Are you removing me?’ I said, ‘Why will I do that, we don’t have any problem between us.’ He said, ‘Let’s just ignore that.’ But I said we have to address it,” the President said.
