Not everyone who went through confusion in their gender identity are fortunate enough to be easily accepted without any words. Harsh as it may sound, the society of today still has this discrimination towards the members of the LBTQ but if someone’s source of love and acceptance is his family – they are among the lucky ones.
In the recent episode of Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11, OFW Bryx admitted something to Kuya or Big Brother, something that’s for him is surely life-changing. He works as a seaman and being in an industry surrounded with men, he finds it hard to fit himself as gay man and it’s just as difficult for him to come out.
He feared judgment and what other people might say, most especially because he’s working in an environment composed mostly of men.
He mustered the courage to admit this to Kuya and he is sure that it is going to be life-changing as he know for a fact that it is going to be shown for public’s consumption. He is in an almost 10-year relationship with another seafarer who is close to being a captain.
With this confession, he also shared that there was no coming out moment that happened with his family. What happened was that they just knew from the start and they’ve let him. They supported him.
In PBB Gen 11, he is dubbed as “Seamanluluto ng Bacolod” and this emotional encounter with Kuya happened after he got nominated for the upcoming eviction night this Saturday. This event gave him the bravery to open up this part about himself.
He wanted to be free to be happy and in order to obtain this, he needed to be courageous.
“Gusto ko na mabuhay ng free. ‘Yun nga ang sabi ko, Kuya. The secret of happiness is freedom and the secret of freedom is courage,” says Brx.
