Dennis Trillo talked about his “kontrabida” role
Kapuso drama king Dennis Trillo revealed how he detaches himself from his character in the series Pulang Araw.
Dennis expressed excitement about this project. This is the first big antagonist role that was given to him. In previous years, he was known for being one of the best drama stars with his superb acting.
This year, he had the chance to showcase another side of being an actor. He plays the “kontrabida” character Col. Yuta Saitoh in the Kapuso primetime series about the struggles of Filipinos during the Japanese occupation.
In a recent interview, based on the article in The Philippine Star, Dennis Trillo shared that this role is very challenging. He had to study how to deliver his lines in Japanese with the proper accent.
To focus on portraying his character very well, Dennis would just stay in his tent and read his script. The actor said that if he did other things, his concentration would disappear. As much as he wanted to bond with his co-stars such as Alden Richards, Sanya Lopez, Barbie Forteza, and David Licauco, he could not do that.
Aside from his line delivery, Dennis is also very particular in other aspects of his character like his appearance. His character is known as a stern person and someone who hates Filipinos.
When asked if his character will have redemption as the story goes, he said, “Sa tingin ko kahit papaano magkakaroon ng redemption yung character.” He added that his character is not just a bad person because he wanted that but he has a backstory.
After taping, Dennis Trillo said that he has a certain way of detaching himself from his character. He would watch funny videos going home from the set and he would continue to do this until he fell asleep. “Para puro positive energy pa rin ang madala ko sa bahay,” he said.
