The Filipino athletes shared the boat with the representatives of Poland and Puerto Rico in the Olympics, the largest sports event across the globe. The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics had Celine Dion singing Edith Piaf’s Hymne a l’amour or Hymn to Love.

It was Celine’s first time to be on stage again after she took a break from her singing career for more than two years due to her health. Based on an article on Pep, TMZ stated that she was paid $2 million for her performance.

Lady Gaga, another in-demand international singer, also performed at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Tom Cruise also stunned the audience at the closing ceremony of the event — another highly-paid celebrity.

Based on the article, Paris also constructed the Olympic Village which housed the 14,250 athletes and officials during the event. France’s total spending for its infrastructure projects in preparation for the huge event is estimated to be around $3 billion.

Reportedly, the 2024 Paris Olympics total cost is close to $10 billion — at $9.7 billion or around Php 569,162,050,000.00 for the hosting of the Summer Olympics and the Paralympics for the facilities and operations.

The Philippines did really well in this year’s Olympics. Filipino Gymnast Carlos Yulo got two (2) Olympic gold medals for the country in men’s floor exercise and vault events. He is the first ever Southeast Asian to become a double Olympic gold medalist.

Aside from Yulo, Pinoy boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio also won bronze Olympic medals for the Philippines. So far, this year’s Olympic performance is the best for the country after its 2020 Olympics performance where Hidilyn Diaz won gold in weightlifting.

After his double gold win in the Paris Olympics, Carlos Yulo and Hidilyn Diaz had the chance to bond.
