SAICT Issues Violation Tickets To Ambulance and Motorcycles for Using EDSA Busway
The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) issued a violation ticket to an ambulance and motorcycle for using the EDSA Busway.
The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) is a government body in the Philippines responsible for overseeing and enforcing transportation regulations. Their duties include monitoring traffic rules, investigating violations, and ensuring compliance with transportation laws.
The agency works to maintain order and safety on the roads, often focusing on specific issues like illegal lane use, public transportation operations, and traffic management.
On Tuesday morning (August 6, 2024), SAICT apprehended an ambulance and several motorcycles that were spotted using the EDSA busway at the Santolan Station in Quezon City. The agency handed out violation tickets for this.
The ambulance was on its way back to Angono, Rizal, after dropping off a patient in Quezon City. The traffic enforcers caught eight motorcycles on the busway. Some riders said they used the busway because they were in a hurry to get to work, while others claimed they did not use the bus lane.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Regulation No. 23-002, the fines for using the EDSA busway illegally are:
- 1st offense: P5,000
- 2nd offense: P10,000, one-month suspension of the driver’s license, and a required road safety seminar
- 3rd offense: P20,000, a one-year suspension of the driver’s license
- 4th offense: P30,000, LTO recommends revocation of driver’s license
The EDSA Busway is a dedicated lane on EDSA, a major road in Metro Manila, Philippines, designed specifically for buses. This busway aims to improve the efficiency and speed of bus travel by separating buses from other vehicles like cars and motorcycles.
It helps reduce traffic congestion and ensures that buses can operate more reliably and on time. It’s part of an effort to create a more organized and effective public transportation system in the city.
