Carlos Yulo talks about his second Olympic win
Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo said that winning two gold medals at the 2024 Olympic Games is “unbelievable.”
Carlos, also known as Caloy, shared what he felt after winning his second gold medal at the most prestigious sports event in the world. He first won his Olympic gold medal in the men’s gymnastics floor exercise with a remarkable score of 15.0. His second gold medal was because of his superb performance in the vault event which gave him an impressive 15.166.
Messages of congratulations from his fellow Filipinos poured over him. Several companies and entities have expressed their desire to grant him rewards for bringing this honor to the Philippines.
After winning his second gold, Carlos Yulo was interviewed by ABS-CBN sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo. The Filipino gymnast said that he couldn’t also believe that he won another gold.
“Unbelievable po talaga,” he said. Caloy said that his only hope and wish before the competition was that he would be healthy, no injury would happen, and he would be able to give a good performance.
The gymnast said that he did not expect that he would be awarded another gold medal after the first one that he won. He shared that he felt relaxed yesterday after winning the first gold medal.
Caloy also attributed his win to his faith that he was guided. “Sobrang grateful po and thankful po sa Kaniya,” the Pinoy athlete said. With what he has achieved, Caloy said with a smile that even he, himself does not know how to react to this.
Dyan Castillejo recalled the time when gymnastics boss Cynthia Carreon predicted that their young male gymnast would bring home an Olympic gold medal. Carlos Yulo expressed gratitude that someone like Ms. Cynthia believed in what he could do. He also said that Ms. Cynthia is like a mother to her and he treats her like a mother for all the support he got from her.
