Direk Petersen Vargas shared experience working with Joshua Garcia & Julia Barretto
Actor Joshua Garcia and actress Julia Barretto reunited onscreen through the movie Un/happy For You and this is what their director Petersen Vargas revealed about them.
Joshua and Julia, known as the JoshLia loveteam, worked together in several movies before they separated as reel and real-life partners. They became a couple for two years but they were able to maintain the friendship between them.
For their reunion project, they star in another romantic drama film. In a recent interview, based on the article in PUSH, Direk Petersen made revelations about the former couple.
The director shared that in the movie, they will show how the current generation falls in love and how they are when they get hurt. He said that Filipinos are fond of reflecting these kinds of emotions onscreen. Direk Petersen added that they created a movie with real pain and this is something new and refreshing.
Talking about the lead stars’ approach to their scenes, the director said he watched Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto’s past projects. He said that the onscreen partner are fun to watch.
Direk Petersen also shared that sometimes, he would give Joshua and Julia their space because of the intimate connection that they have with each other in making the scenes. “They were so generous for sharing themselves,” the director said.
In the movie, Joshua played the character of Juancho, a cook. He planned to get even with his engaged to be married ex-girlfriend Zy, played by Julia.
Direk Peterson also shared that the story is set in Bicol. Although he is not a Bicolono, he worked closely with the writers because he wanted the lead characters to feel the spiciness that the province can offer as ex-lovers reunite.
The director shared that throughout their filming, he did not had a hard time with the cast, especially the two lead stars. “It was really a fun set. I think they were all very generous with each other and I think kasi lini-lead nila Josh and Julia yun,” Direk Petersen said, adding that the generosity came out from everyone who saw the two lead stars.
