Bongbong Marcos’ Wife Liza Marcos Joins PCG Auxiliary

LIZA MARCOS – First Lady Liza Marcos joined the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Auxiliary on Tuesday, July 16, as she hopes to inspire the Pinoys to serve the country.

Liza Araneta-Marcos, a lawyer and the wife of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has recently been appointed as Vice Admiral of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), the volunteer arm of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

The First Lady was formally inducted into the PCGA’s Executive Squadron during a ceremony on the BRP Gabriela Silang on Tuesday, July 16, as announced by PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo.

Liza Araneta-Marcos was given the honorary rank of Auxiliary Vice Admiral, a three-star officer position within the volunteer force. In a brief statement to the media via Balilo, she said, “I join the PCG to inspire the men and women of the organization as they fulfill their duty to the country.”

She was accompanied by her son Vincent, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, and PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gavan during the ceremony.

The PCGA, a volunteer non-government organization, follows a “military structure” as it is associated with the PCG. The role of a PCGA member is not strictly defined and is determined by the individual.

Among the members of the PCGA are celebrity couple Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto. Balilo noted that Araneta-Marcos is the first First Lady to join the PCGA.

In a speech aboard the BRP Gabriela Silang, Gavan remarked that the First Lady’s presence exudes strength and compassion, which motivates action and inspires results.

A release from the PCG quoted Auxiliary Vice Admiral Araneta-Marcos expressing her gratitude to the Coast Guardians for ensuring maritime safety, security, and upholding the country’s sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.

When asked if she would join PCG missions to the West Philippine Sea, such as resupply missions to Ayungin Shoal, Balilo said the First Lady did not comment on this.

The PCGA operates separately from the PCG. The PCG is one of the main government agencies dealing with China’s increasing aggression in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone, especially in the West Philippine Sea.

The PCG escorts various vessels, including those contracted by the Navy and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, to areas of tension between the Philippines and China in the West Philippine Sea.
