Five DepEd High-Ranking Officials Tender Resignation
DEPED OFFICIALS RESIGN – Five (5) top officials in the Department of Education resigned from their posts before Sen. Sonny Angara assumes post as secretary.
In the Philippines, the government body that is on top of the public elementary and secondary schools is the Department of Education or more popularly called DepEd. It has regional offices across the nation to manage the countless public elementary and secondary schools in the country.

The Department of Education was previously headed by Vice President Sara Duterte. Then, she was also the vice chairperson of the government’s anti-communist task force, the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or the NTF-ELCAC.
However, a few weeks ago, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte resigned from being the DepEd Secretary. She did not disclose the direct reason behind her resignation but she stressed that it is out of her compassion for teachers and students.

Following the resignation of Vice Pres. Duterte, Sen. Sonny Angara was appointed by President Bongbong Marcos to assumed the post as the Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The turn-over ceremony is set to be held on July 18. However, based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, five (5) DepEd high-ranking officials resigned from their posts ahead of Sen. Sonny Angara assuming office as the education secretary.
One of those high-ranking officials of the education department who resigned from office is Undersecretary Michael Poa. Based on the article, she is also the chief-of-staff of Vice Pres. Duterte.
Here is a list of the 5 DepEd high-ranking officials who tendered their resignation:
- Undersecretary Michael Poa
- Undersecretary for Administration Nolasco Mempin
- Assistant Secretary Sunshine Fajarda
- Assistant Secretary for Procurement Reynold Munsayac
- Assistant Secretary for Administration Noel Baluyan
Based on the report, the resignations of the above-mentioned individuals will be effective on the same day that Duterte’s will, this July 19. Speaking to ABS-CBN, education undersecretary Michael Poa tag their move to leave their posts as only appropriate to give the incoming DepEd Secretary a free hand to pick the individuals that will compose their team.
The turn-over ceremony will be held at the Department of Education office. The officials who will leave their post have submitted their resignation letters to Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
