Mayor Alice Guo’s Lawyer Gives Statement after Authorities Fail To Locate Her
ALICE GUO’S LAWYER – Suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor’s legal counsel Attorney Stephen David speaks on her amid the “hiding” speculations.
The Senate issued an arrest order against Mayor Alice Guo. The Senate Committee cited her in contempt after she skipped the hearing set by the upper chamber last July 10. The suspended mayor of Bamban, Tarlac is facing several accusations.
Guo is being questioned about her identity. According to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Mayor Guo’s fingerprints matched the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national.
The suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor is facing accusations about her alleged involvement in the Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town.
According to Mayor Alice Guo’s lawyer, Atty. Stephen David, his client intended to skip the July 10 Senate hearing as she was really “traumatized” by how she was treated. The legal counsel of the Mayor also said that she is physically and emotionally drained by the accusations against her.
The Senate cited Guo in contempt. Prior to her absence at the July 10 Senate hearing, Senator Risa Hontiveros reminded the Mayor and her legal counsels of their obligation to uphold the Philippine laws.
Senate President Chiz Escudero also stressed that it is not the call of the person being summoned to decide whether or not to attend the hearing. The Senate committee that cited Guo in contempt penned a letter to the Senate President.
Senate Pres. Escudero signed the arrest order against Mayor Alice Guo. The authorities visited all the registered addresses of the suspended Mayor but she was not located. They also reportedly came to her farm as well as to her garments factories but she was not there.
Amid the speculations that she is already hiding, Mayor Alice Guo’s lawyer spoke and claimed that she fears for her life. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, according to Atty. Stephen David, there are a lot of threats against Guo that is why she is scared.
“Natatakot siya sa security niya saka kung anong pwedeng mangyari kung makulong siya,” David said in a separate interview.
Mayor Alice Guo’s lawyer said that the Mayor wants to really try to attend the hearing amid her fears but she is still thinking about it.
