Filipina Shares Love Story with American Ex-Boyfriend Who Is Now her Husband
Filipina Yolly Santiago and her American ex-boyfriend, Joe Sullenger, reconnected and married each other after 48 years of no contact.
There are countless kinds of love stories across the globe. There are lovers who are each other’s first love while there are also those lost each other for some time and found each other again. Among the latter are Yolly Santiago and Joe Sullenger.
Yolly Santiago is a Filipina who was working in a club when she and Joe Sullenger, an American member of the U.S. Navy, met. She was only 17 years old while he was 21 years old when they met as he was assigned in Olongapo in 1972.
Then, Yolly left the house of her grandparents and was working in a club for two (2) years already based on an article on Pep. They instantly clicked and they eventually became lovers.
In 1974, Joe Sullenger was assigned in Japan. According to Yolly Santiago, at first, they had a communication through letters. However, time came when they lost communication. She thinks that it is either she did not receive his letter or he did not got hers.
The Filipina and her American ex-boyfriend lost communication. Based on the article, she got married and had seven (7) children with her husband. However, after 26 years of being together, in 2000, she and her husband went separate ways.
According to Yolly, in 2019, around 2 decades since her separation from her husband, she decided to check on Joe on Facebook. She found him on social media. He got married and was blessed with two children but his wife died in 2018.
The Filipina and her American ex-boyfriend reconnected. Recognizing that they have went through a lot, the then-ex-couple decided to stay as friends. He decided to spend Christmas in the country in 2019.
According to Yolly, they rented an apartment and they were together the whole time that Joe was in a Christmas vacation in the Philippines. She admitted that they stayed in the same room but only as friends.
Based on the article, a week after he returned to the United States, she was surprised when she called and proposed marriage to her. She gave her “yes” but it took them quite some time to get married as they had to wait for the annulment of her existing marriage.
Yolly Santiago and Joe Sullenger have officially tied the knot and are set to celebrate their second wedding anniversary this July. The couple is now residing on a farm in Missouri, United States.
