Woman Files Complaint Against Boyfriend Who Failed to Take her to Airport, Take Care of 2 Dogs

New Zealander Woman Files Complaint Against Boyfriend at Disputes Tribunal

WOMAN – A New Zealander filed a complaint against her boyfriend who allegedly failed to take her to the airport and take care of her dogs.

What usually happens between lovers is that the boyfriend is the one who fetches the girlfriend or brings her to wherever she needs to go as long as his schedule and capacity allow. There are also instances when it is the other way around. This is one of the ways that lovers show their love for each other most especially for lovers who usually travel.

However, recently, such loving gesture has affected the relationship of a New Zealander couple after the boyfriend reportedly failed to take his girlfriend to the airport. The woman filed a complaint against her boyfriend at the Disputes Tribunal of New Zealand.

Based on an article on Pep, the Disputes Tribunal of New Zealand is less formal than the court. It is also called as the smaller claims court and it is the one that tackles the much lower complaints for speedier resolution.

The case of the New Zealander couple can be read as a legal document in the Disputes Tribunal of New Zealand. The woman claimed that she missed her flight because her boyfriend did not take her to the airport.

She is supposedly off somewhere to watch a concert with her friends. She accused her boyfriend of violating their “verbal contract” as he agreed to take her to the airport. According to her, he also agreed to watch over her house and take care of her two dogs while she’s not around.

Only the initials of the woman (CL) and her boyfriend (HG) were written in the legal document. She claimed that she called him a day before her flight and asked him to fetch her between 10:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. but he was not able to fetch her.

Because she missed her flight, she needed to pay additional fees for her flight the next day. She also brought her dogs to kennels to be taken care of while she’s away. Based on the article, she is also paid an extra for her airport shuttle service.

The woman also wanted her boyfriend to pay her the money she spent for his ferry ticket when they visited her children last December 2023. However, based on the article, the Dispute Tribunal junked the complaint against the man.

Tribunal referee Krysia Cowie explained that “partners, friends and colleagues make social arrangements, but it is unlikely they can be legally enforced unless the parties perform some act that demonstrates an intention that they will be bound by their promises”.

Furthermore, the Tirbunal Referee stressed that the nature of promises is a give and take process in an intimate relationship.
