October 30 of Every Year Declared as ‘National Day of Charity’, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Says
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has declared October 30 each year as the “National Day of Charity.”
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) stated that this day aims to promote compassion, unity, and social responsibility among Filipinos, encouraging meaningful changes in society and government.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 598 on June 13, 2024. The theme “Bagong Pilipinas” points out major transformations to emphasize values of compassion and solidarity.

Marcos referenced the Section 9, Article II of the Constitution, which supports creating a fair social order, improving living standards, promoting employment, and providing social services to help free people from poverty.
“Bagong Pilipinas, as the overarching theme of the Administration’s brand of governance and leadership, calls for deep and fundamental transformations in all sectors of society and government, and visions to emphasize compassion, solidarity and social responsibility among Filipinos,” the proclamation states.
The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is tasked with leading and organizing the day’s activities, planning programs and projects for the celebration.

All government agencies, including government-owned corporations, financial institutions, and state universities, are encouraged to participate. Local governments, non-government organizations, and private sectors are also invited to join.
“PCSO has shown its dedication to fulfil its mandate through the provision of medical services, the conduct of free medical and dental services, the establishment of an out-patient clinic, and its partnerships with qualified government and non-government welfare institutions/agencies that promote the well-being of the marginalized sectors of society,” the proclamation added.
The declaration aligns with the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of all Filipinos under the “Bagong Pilipinas” program.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the announcement:
