BGYO took legal action against “cyberbullies”
P-pop group BGYO filed cyber libel and unjust vexation complaints against their bashers online for allegedly spreading false information.
The group is composed of Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate. They were formed through ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy program and they made their debut in 2021. Their first single was The Light, and it was followed by Tumitigil Ang Mundo and He’s Into Her.
BGYO is one of the most recognized P-pop groups nowadays. Their fans are known as Aces who avidly support their journey. However, not all comments on social media are favorable to them. Just like other groups, they also received bashing online.
On June 19, the members of the group started their first step in addressing the accusations thrown against them on social media. With their legal counsel, they went to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Based on the report from ABS-CBN News, Star Magic expressed readiness to take legal actions against “cyberbullies” who are allegedly spreading fake news against the group accusing them of cheating, bullying, and drug use.
A few months ago, Atty. Joji Alonso, the legal counsel of the Kapamilya talent management company handling BGYO, shared that they had been cooperating with government agencies and private service providers to gather information against the group’s online bashers.
“Filing of criminal cases will be set in motion. Again, we remind the public that it is not only crucial to call out acts of bashing and cyberbullying, but to show kindness and accord everyone due respect, both online and in real life,” the lawyer said.
Aside from BGYO, the girl group BINI, which is also handled by Star Magic, received malicious comments on social media as well. Back in April, Star Magic addressed the malicious online attacks against the P-pop groups.
