Eva Darren Issue – FAMAS Says Sorry For “Snubbing” The Veteran Actress

FAMAS apologized to Eva Darren over the sudden changes during the awarding night.

The organizers of the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) apologized to veteran actress Eva Darren.

Fernando de la Peña, son of veteran actress Eva Darren, called out the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) and the organizers of the 2024 awarding event. This is after his mother was not able to go up on stage despite the invitation as one of the ceremony’s presenters.

FAMAS Awards 2024 awarding of winners has already concluded and his mother was excited for the event considering that her last FAMAS awards night attendance was in 1969. This was the time when she took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role in a film.

Her mother prepared and memorized everything. She bough a new dress and heels and even availed a hair and make-up package. She even paid for seating plate for the ceremony which costed her Php 5,000.00 each for herself and three of her grandchildren.

“During the point where she was supposed to present an award, her partner, Mr. Tirso Cruz III went upstage with an upcoming young singer instead. Not my mom,” he wrote adding that it was “rude, disrespectful, unethical and unprofessional”. The post caused a stir online and this eventually reached the awareness of FAMAS.

A statement from FAMAS was issued expressing apologies and regrets for the mishap that occurred. The organization admitted the fault and apologized for the “negligence on the part of the team”.

In the statement, FAMAS confirmed that the icon in Philippine Movie Industry was supposed to present Special Citations but due to the crowd, the production team was unable to locate her. It was accordingly not intentional and the replacement that happened was a remedy of their misjudgment.

They reiterated the value for Darren and the other veteran stars and they regret for such changes that happened last minute due to hitches and unfortunate developments during the live show.

The statement furthered, “We understand that an apology alone cannot undo the damage this might have caused Miss Darren but we are committed to make amends and rebuild her trust by a personal visit of the FAMAS Board to honor her stature, if she allows it.”
