Grade 7 Students Fainted During Dance Rehearsal at School

Eight Grade 7 students from Sta. Ana National High School in Davao City fainted during a dance rehearsal.

On Monday (May 20, 2024), several Grade 7 students experienced dizziness and fainted during a rehearsal for a recital performance inside an auditorium.

The emergency responders quickly arrived to assist the affected students, ensuring their safety and providing necessary medical assistance. The condition of the students raised concerns, and one of the primary reasons being investigated is hunger.

School principal Welita Rosal explained that it’s the first time of students to practice before a big stage. Out of their excitement, the learners woke up very early and ate very little, requiring a lot of stamina and endurance.

The students mentioned that the air conditioning unit in the auditorium was not turned on during their practice. The auditorium management explained that the venue was provided for free to the event organizers, which is why the air conditioning was not used.

CAP Development Center coordinator Marilyn Antonio told the organizer to bring an electric fan because a similar incident happened before with no fans or air conditioning.

“Tapos sinabihan ko rin ang organizer mismo na magdala kayo ng electric fan kasi ganun din ang nangyari dati na walang fan, walang hangin, unless magbayad tayo at ipa-on ang aircon,” Antonio said.

The auditorium management decided that they would no longer allow the venue to be used without the air conditioning turned on. This measure aims to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Regional Office XI of the Department of Education has not yet responded. All eight of the students made a full recovery and were back on stage the next day.

Parents were urged by the Davao City Police Office to keep a watchful eye on their kids when they are engaged in activities off school property.

Hazel Tuazon.
