Bato Dela Rosa Tearfully Reacts to Migz Zubiri’s Resignation as Senate President
BATO DELA ROSA – Senator Senator Ronald Dela Rosa broke down into tears hearing the farewell speech of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
Senator Ronald Dela Rosa was moved to tears during the farewell speech of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, who decided to resign from his position on Monday (May 20).
Zubiri, with tears in his eyes, said goodbye to his role after losing the support of his colleagues in the 24-member upper chamber.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri became emotional halfway through his speech as he expressed gratitude to his “leadership team” – Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda, Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, and Senators JV Ejercito, Nancy Binay, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Sonny Angara.
Addressing Dela Rosa, Zubiri said, “To Bato Dela Rosa, who stuck it out with me to the very end. I salute you sir.”
Dela Rosa was seen crying and saluting Zubiri in response.
It is widely believed that Zubiri’s removal was influenced by his decision to allow Senator Dela Rosa to investigate an alleged leaked drug operation report implicating President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in drugs.
In his farewell address, Zubiri suggested he lost his position because he may have “ruffled some feathers” and “upset the powers that be” by respecting his fellow senators’ independence.
Following this, Legarda and Villanueva resigned from their leadership roles, while Ejercito, Binay, and Angara stepped down from their committee chairpersonships to make way for new leadership.
Veteran Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero was elected to succeed Zubiri as Senate President.
