Ogie Diaz defended Coco Martin
Netizens criticized Kapamilya actor Coco Martin for wearing leather jackets as Tanggol in his primetime action-drama series Batang Quiapo.
Coco has done several action-drama series. His recent series is based on Da Kings Fernando Poe Jr’s movie Batang Quiapo which was released in 1986. Aside from being the lead actor in this series, Coco also takes directing credits.
His avid fans throughout his career has been following his different projects on TV and in the big screen.
Despite the high ratings that Coco Martin’s current series have, some netizens expressed dismay. One of the reasons was the leather jackets that his character wears even though it is too hot in the Philippines.
Based on the article in Balita, talent manager-vlogger Ogie Diaz defended the Kapamilya actor for having this outfit for his character Tanggol. “Kasi gan’to ‘yan, ano—gusto ko lang ipaliwanag sa inyo—branding kasi ‘yon. Syempre, ang ‘Batang Quiapo’ ay si FPJ. Kahit ang ‘Probinsyano’ ay si FPJ. So, syempre ang kinakatawan ni Coco ay si FPJ,” Ogie said.
The talent manager-vlogger also said that the cast of the Kapamilya series is making their audience think that they did not feel the hot temperature.
“So, ‘pag sinasabi nila na: ‘Ang init-init, bakit naka-jacket?’ May napansin ba kayong nagpapaypay doon? [Wala]. Ibig sabihin, hindi nila pinaparamdam sa audience na mainit ang paligid,” Ogie added.
He also said that the viewers should understand Coco if he wears leather jackets. For Ogie, he will also allow the actor to do this, if he is the manager. The leather jacket has been part of the image of action stars in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Coco Martin elicited collab project speculations with veteran TV host Willie Revillame last March. It is because of their photos together taken at the latter’s rest house in Puerto Galera. However, a source clarified that the actor just went there for vacation.
