Customer Shares Experience of Alleged Racism at Quezon City Restaurant

A customer shared his upsetting experience of receiving what he claim to be a “racist note” from a restaurant in Quezon City.

Recently, Michael Melvin Odoemene, a Facebook user, recounted his encounter after allegedly receiving derogatory remarks at a restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City. The post quickly went viral and garnredvarious reactions online.

In his Facebook post, Odoemene recounted his visit to North Park in Tomas Morato on April 30, 2024, around midnight. After enjoying his meal with friends, he was handed a receipt with a note written on it: “SA NAKA BLACK NA NAKAUPO SA 14 KULOT ANG BUHOK KAMUKHA NI BLACK JACK.”

The note, allegedly made by one of the restaurant’s staff members, appeared to mock the customer’s appearance based on his racial background. Odoemene, who identifies as half-Nigerian and half-Filipino, expressed his disappointment and questioned the necessity of such a note.

Upon raising the issue with the assistant manager on duty, Michael claimed he was met with a dismissive response. He had to persistently request the original receipt, which the manager initially hesitated to provide, citing excuses like it being lost or misplaced in their system.

However, Odoemene stood his ground until he finally received the original receipt. While the manager assured him that the waitress responsible for the note would be disciplined, he remained dissatisfied with the resolution.

The customer emphasized that reprimanding the staff member does not address the larger issue of promoting respect within the restaurant’s culture.

Odoemene shared his story on social media to raise awareness about racism and discrimination towards strangers. He questioned how many others might have faced similar treatment and whether such behavior reflects the standard of customer service at North Park.
