Here are some of the must-try Singaporean dishes if you are a first-timer in this ultra-modern country in Asia.

Singapore is one of the top countries most frequented by a lot of tourists every year. From the tall skyscrapers to the iconic tourist spots, there are a lot of things to love about this place. But in every country we visit, there is this one thing we cannot miss and that is their local food and in SG, there are a lot of foods that will make you forget about your diet.

Here are some of the local dishes you must try here!

  • Chicken Rice – This is served in almost all dining spots and the taste of this just hits right on the spot.
  • Chilli Crab – The Chilli Crab in SG is different because of their Singaporean sauce. It has a tangy sauce that is absorbed by the flesh of the crab.
  • Fish Head Curry – This is a spicy dish with a stew that can melt your heart with its flavor. This dish has vegetables and of course, the whole head of a fish.
  • Fried Carrot Cake – Despite its name, this dish has no carrot in it from the orange variety. This is made of ice flour and white radish or also called as white carrot.

  • Fried Kway Teow – This is also called ‘char kway teow’, a wok-fried noodle dish that is served in hawker centers all across Singapore. The dish is a mix of flat rice noodles and yellow wheat noodles. This is cooked over high heat with light and dark soy sauce, garlic, chilli, lup cheong (Chinese waxed sausage), egg, fishcake and beansprouts.
  • Hokkien Prawn Mee – A simple dish of stir-fried noodles made of yellow noodles and thick ‘bee hoon’ (vermicelli) with juicy prawns, squid, pork belly strips, egg, and crunchy fried pork lard.
  • Kaya Toast – This is a simple dish for those with a sweet tooth that goes well with a cup of coffee or tea.
  • Laksa – The broth of this dish just has the right balance of spice and coconut milk, something that will make your tastebuds alive.
  • Nasi Lemak – The rice is rich in  coconut cream that makes it sinfully delicious. The rice is also infused with pandan leaves that is served with deep-fried fish or chicken wings, otah (grilled fish paste), fried ikan bilis (local anchovies) and peanuts, eggs, cucumber slices, and sambal (spicy chilli paste).
  • Satay – These grilled meat skewers delivers an explosion of flavors inside your mouth that will make you bite for more.
