Randy Santiago shared how he started wearing shades
Seasoned singer Randy Santiago revealed the story behind his “kirat” eyes, leading him to wear shades that have become his trademark.
Randy was never seen in public or performed without his shades on. The eyewear has become part of his overall look. He is known as the OPM artist who wears shades wherever and whenever.
In a recent interview for his upcoming concert EYE CON, the seasoned singer revealed how he started wearing shades.
Randy Santiago shared that when he was in Grade 2, his left had a cyst., based on the article in Bandera, He had to stop schooling and had to undergo surgery.
“Then lumaki ulit yung cyst, inoperahan ulit. Three times akong nag-Grade 2,” the singer shared. When asked why he did not experience bullying with his condition and the fact that he was a repeater, Randy said that it was because he was older than his classmates.
He shared that he started wearing shades when he was in high school and that was in 1983. The singer was wearing lighter shades.
“In college, I was also wearing lighter shades, until sa Cicada, tatakpan namin,” he shared. With this, he used an eye patch. However, holding the microphone when he was singing was difficult because his vision was not impaired after all.
“Ang sabi ko, Tanggalin na natin ‘tong patch na to at mag-shades na lang ako. Ayun, it started in 1983,” the singer shared.
Randy also shared that he was first obliged not to wear shades in the Kapamilya series La Luna Sangre in 2017. Director Cathy Garcia-Sampana requested it and his right eye was shown.
The singer said that this is the reason why he is not doing TV series but he can pull off a sitcom with his shades. He said that he would just leave the teleserye to his brothers Raymart and Rowell Santiago.
