Malacañang Palace Declares April 10, 2024 as a Regular Holiday Across PH in Observance of Eid’l Fitr
Malacañang Palace has declared April 10, 2024, as a regular holiday across the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Fitr.
In a move to honor and respect the Muslim Filipino community’s observance of Eid’l Fitr, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has officially declared Wednesday (April 10, 2024), as a regular holiday across the Philippines.
This declaration, made through Proclamation No. 514 signed on April 4, 2024, aims to recognize and support the importance of the Islamic festival that marks the end of the month-long Ramadan.
The decision to declare April 10 as a national holiday comes as a result of recommendations from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the proclamation, acting under the authority of President Marcos.
The move emphasizes the government’s commitment to promoting religious and cultural diversity and establishing unity among all Filipinos.
The Feast of Ramadan, or Eid’l Fitr, is a highly important occasion in the Islamic calendar. For Muslims around the world, it marks the end of a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
The proclamation puts a strong emphasis on how important it is for all Filipinos to celebrate this important religious holiday with their Muslim brothers and sisters in order to promote unity, peace, and understanding.
The recognition of Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday is in accordance with Republic Act No. 9177 and Presidential Proclamation No. 1083, enacted on November 13, 2002.
The proclamation acknowledges the religious importance of Eid’l Fitr and grants Filipino Muslims the opportunity to observe and celebrate their faith without hindrance.
During Ramadan, Muslims engage in fasting from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs. It is a time of spiritual reflection, increased devotion, and acts of charity, emphasizing self-discipline, compassion, and community solidarity.
The declaration of April 10 as a regular holiday for Eid’l Fitr follows closely after the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), another national holiday observed annually on April 9. With both days falling consecutively, Filipinos have the opportunity for religious observance, reflection, and rest.
