Newbie Taekwondo Student Sustained Injuries During Sparring Session Black Belter
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A newbie taekwondo student got injured by a heavier male black belt during a sparring session.
A 17-year-old female yellow belt student in taekwondo gets severely injured during an arranged sparring session with a larger and heavier male black belt, allegedly organized by her coach last February 2024. The incident garnered various reactions from the netizens.
The victim sustained visible bruises under her eyes and swelling on her face, needing hospitalization due to her serious injuries. She reiterated the brutality of the sparring session and her inability to defend herself against her stronger opponent.
The newbie taekwondo student described feeling drained and traumatized, emphasizing her distress for facing a much more experienced opponent, especially considering her novice status in the sport.
“Muntikan na po ako mamatay dahil sa bugbog. Binugbog ako na wala akong laban. ‘Di ko kaya lumaban wala ako magawa sa sarili ko kasi pinartner ako sa lalaki na mas mabigat sa akin 70 kilos, black belter pa. Kakasimula ko lang po,” she said.
Her family thinks the coach planned the fight on purpose because he was jealous. They say he treated her unfairly before and didn’t like her boyfriend. They think these things might explain why the coach did what he did.
“Sinadya po dahil may gusto siya sa anak ko. Meron daw pong biglang inaakap siya, inaakbayan, tapos inaaya siya kumain sa labas, magkape nang sila lang dalawa. Sabi ko di na normal yun,” the victim’s mother said.
The coach is facing serious legal trouble for breaking the law that protects kids from harm. The suspect reportedly violated the Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
The taekwondo organization JILCF is looking into the incident. They’ve stopped training for now to investigate the matter. They want to make sure everyone on the team is safe and that the sport is respected.
