Ronnie Liang Reveals He Auditioned For A K-Pop Group

Ronnie Liang recalled the time when he was supposed to be part of a K-pop group

Singer Ronnie Liang revealed that he auditioned to become a K-pop idol but he chose not to push through.

Ronnie rose to fame after joining the Kapamilya reality show Pinoy Dream Academy. His breakthrough song Ngiti created a wave. During the height of his song’s popularity, an opportunity came to change his career path.

In a recent interview, based on the article in Bandera, the singer auditioned for a boy band that will go through the Korean training system when it comes to creating idols.

However, Ronnie Liang decided to turn down that opportunity. He was supposed to go to South Korea for the intense training.

That time, kasagsagan ng ‘Ngiti.’ Gusto nila akong dalhin sa Korea. Nag-audition ako sa mga producer. Yung show (sa South Korea) ang may invitation na may audition,” the singer shared.

He explained that there is a trend that Korean agencies would get artists from different countries and train them together to create a group. However, during the training, he had to stay in South Korea for three years.

Ang requirement is two to three years ang training. Sabi pa nila, ‘Are you willing, face change (enhancements)?’ Sabi ko, ‘Yes.’ Kaso, three years na walang uwian,” he said.

At that time, Ronnie was promoting his song Ngiti and he had some showbiz engagements. He had to fulfill his contract back then.

When asked if he felt “panghihinayang” to the missed opportunity, the singer admitted that he had. “Nanghinayang ako, actually, I have to be very honest,” Ronnie said. However, at that time, his advisors said that this opportunity was a “hit or miss.” There were a lot who also wanted to pursue that kind of career and there was no strong assurance that he would be launched as a K-pop idol.

Dito, you’re a solo artist, may gigs ka na, may regular shows. Kasi, nag-audition ako 300 times, nakapasok na ako, ‘tapos iiwan ko para pumunta ako doon. Back to zero ulit,” he said.

Ronnie Liang added there is a reason for everything and all things work together for good.

Meanwhile, the singer received admiration from the public when he celebrated his birthday last year with children with cancer.
