CHOCOLATE HILLS RESORT became controversial and after it created a loud buzz online, the establishment announced temporary closure.
The controversial resort that created loud buzz online is the Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort. In a previous article, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) released an official statement about this.
It caused a public uproar as the resort was built in Philippine’s very first National Geological Monument.
Based on the DENR statement about the resort, they clarified that they have issued a temporary closure order to the resort in 2023 but was not clearly heeded. A notice of violation was also issued in January for it went on to its operation without the environmental compliance certificate or ECC.
Following the controversies, the resort complied to the closure order which was confirmed by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Bohol.
“To our valued guests, this is to inform you that our resort is temporarily closed until further notice. Sorry, for the [inconvenience],” Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort wrote on its Facebook page late night Wednesday.
To recall, the uproar started after videos and images of the resort amenities at the foot of the hills became viral. The amenities built include swimming pools, slides, and cabanas with the famed Chocolate Hills around it. This resort is located at Libertad Norte, Sagbayan.
As for the Department of Tourism (DOT), they have accordingly been coordinating with the Bohol provincial government since August 2023 about the concerns raised regarding this resort.
Beauty queen Pauline Amelinckx reacted to the resort’s issue. She reminded her followers about the vital role of people in protecting and preserving natural landmarks.
