On Monday (March 11, 2024), JC Quiňanola, a Filipino trekker, shared a breathtaking sight he encountered as crystal frost covers the surroundings of Lake Venado in Mt. Apo. The post garnered various reactions from the netizens.

The mountaineer and photo enthusiast from Kidapawan City recounted waking up at 5:00 a.m to find their tent enveloped in ice. As they stepped outside, they were greeted by the frost-covered landscape of Lake Venado.

However, as the sun rose, the ice gradually melted away, revealing the stunning beauty of the place. The beautiful scenery left Quiňanola and his companions in awe.

The phenomenon was particularly striking given that Mt. Apo is located in the Philippines, far from places commonly associated with such icy landscapes as Japan or Antarctica.

According to the Mount Apo Natural Park Development Management Office, the area has been experiencing temperatures ranging from 6 to 8 degrees Celsius over the past few days.

Mountain guide Arnie Macañeras noted that while the daytime can be hot, the temperature drops significantly at night, resulting in the formation of frost.

Paul Rodney Arbiol, the Mount Apo Natural Park Development Management Officer, explained that the coldest months at the country’s highest peak are typically from February to March.

This period sees cooler temperatures, providing favorable conditions for the formation of frost.
