GSIS Survivorship Benefit Grants Part of Deceased Member’s Pension To Beneficiaries

Guide on GSIS Survivorship Benefit Offer Features

GSIS SURVIVORSHIP BENEFIT – Under the benefit offer, the beneficiaries of a deceased GSIS member will be granted a part of the monthly pension the deceased pensioner was receiving.

In the Philippines, a huge part of the Filipino populace are members of the Government Service Insurance System or more popularly called GSIS. A lot of these people are looking forward to a monthly pension when retirement comes while many others are already getting it.

In the event that a pensioner dies, the state-run social insurance giant made sure that the surviving beneficiaries of the deceased member will not be left with nothing. The state entity recognized that “the pension is an earned right and not a privilege”.

Thus, the Government Service Insurance System restored the GSIS Survivorship Benefit. Under it, the beneficiaries of a deceased pensioner of the state entity will get a part of the monthly pension he/she was receiving.

The surviving spouse of the deceased GSIS pensioner and his/her children are considered the primary beneficiaries. In the absence of the primary beneficiaries, the benefit may be granted to the living parents of the pensioner who are the secondary beneficiaries.

How much is the amount of the GSIS Survivorship Benefit? According to the social insurance institution, the surviving spouse is entitled to an equivalent of “50% of the basic minimum pension received by the deceased member or pensioner”.

The minor children of a deceased GSIS pensioner are also entitled to a monthly pension “equivalent to 10% of the basic minimum pension payable until the age of majority”. The pension stops in case the dependent spouse remarries, cohabits or engages in common-law relationship.

To file for a claim of the GSIS Survivorship Benefit, the legal beneficiaries must submit the requirements set by the Government Service Insurance System. The list of documents required varies depending in the case of the deceased member:
