Guide on the GSIS Unemployment Benefit Offer for Members
GSIS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT – The Government Service Insurance System has an Unemployment Benefit offer for members in times of involuntary job loss.
Undeniably, countless individuals want public employment due to these three (3) main factors — the high compensation for regular employees, the stability of the employment, and the benefits and bonuses for the government employees.
However, unemployment can happen, too, even for public employees. The abolition of an office, department, or position are among the possible roots of such situation. Meanwhile, in the case of regular employees who lost their job due to an involuntary reason such as the cases mentioned, there is the GSIS Unemployment Benefitr offer that they can turn to.
The GSIS Unemployment Benefit was crafted for members who involuntarily lost their job. Here are the qualifications set by the state-run social insurance institution:
- the GSIS member was a permanent employee at the time of separation;
- the separation was involuntary due to the abolition of member-employee’s office or position resulting from reorganization; and,
- the member has been paying the contributions for at least one (1) year prior to separation
How much a member may get under the GSIS Unemployment Benefit? According to GSIS, it is “in the form of monthly cash payments equivalent to 50% of the average monthly compensation (AMC)”. The duration is based on the length of service of the member up to a maximum of six (6) months.
- If the member has posted contributions for at least one (1) year but less than three (3) years, the benefit duration is for two months
- If the member has posted contributions for at least three (3) years but not more than six (6) years, the benefit duration is for three months
- If the member has posted contributions for at least six (6) years but not more than nine (9) years, the benefit duration is for four months
- If the member has posted contributions for at least nine (9) years but not more than eleven (11) years, the benefit duration is for four months
- If the member has posted contributions for at least eleven (11) years but not more than fifteen (15) years, the benefit duration is for four months
In applying for the GSIS Unemployment Benefit offer, there are a few documents that must be prepared and submitted to the state entity. Here are the documents required:
