72 Residents in Agusan del Sur Rushed to Hospital Due to LBM & Vomiting
72 residents of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur were hospitalized due to LBM, vomiting, and stomachache.
On Tuesday (February 19, 2024), a health crisis in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, resulted in the hospitalization of around 72 residents due to stomachaches, vomiting, and loose bowel movements.
The Provincial Health Officer of Agusan del Sur Dr. Jackie Momville reported that most victims were from Barangay Tandang Sora. Patients began arriving at the Esperanza Medicare Community Hospital around 6 p.m.
A response team was immediately sent by the Rural Health Unit of Esperanza to Barangay Tandang Sora in order to evaluate the situation and offer the required support. Health professionals were committed to guaranteeing each patient’s well-being while conducting investigations to figure out the source of the widespread disease.
Dr. Momville aims to save them, and no patient should perish. She emphasized the importance of administering intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration caused by vomiting and diarrhea. Additionally, medications such as pain relievers and antibiotics were promptly delivered to ease discomfort and treat potential infections.
“Very important po sa ganitong sitwasyon, kapag may mga pasyente na pumapasok, yung una po nating gagawin is suero-han po sila para di sila ma-deyhydrate dahil sa pagsusuka at pagtatae.” Momville said.
Esperanza Medicare Community Hospital increased its workforce to handle the situation effectively. The hospital received logistical support including IV fluids, medicines, and medical supplies from the Provincial Health Office and other hospitals.
Additional bed capacity was also prepared in nearby hospitals to accommodate any overflow of patients.
Patient Transport Vehicles (PTVs) were sent to supplement medically necessary patient transportation.
By assisting with patient transportation and supplying necessary medical supplies, such as Oresol from the Department of Health, the MDRRMO San Luis and the Philippine Red Cross provided great support.
