Is it true that the old Eat Bulaga has financial obligations to GMA?
Rumor has it that the Eat Bulaga that was handled by TAPE Inc., the production company owned by former congressman Romy Jalosjos, has an 800 million pesos debt to GMA.
The said show is the longest-running noontime show which was started by the iconic TVJ trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon. After more than four decades of the show, a conflict happened.
TVJ decided to resign from TAPE Inc., as well as, the rest of the legit Dabarkads and some of the staff members.
Then, the legal battle happened. TVJ wanted to use Eat Bulaga for their new show on TV5 but TAPE Inc. would not easily give up on this. Early this year, the trio secured the trademark and the Kapuso noontime show had to change its title. It is now called Tahanang Pinakamasaya still led by Paolo Contis and Isko Moreno.
When TVJ left TAPE Inc., rumors about the financial status of the production company of Jalosjos surfaced. However, Dapitan Mayor Bullet Jalosjos, one of the executives, said that the company is financially stable.
Previously, Jose Manalo stated that he would just forget the “utang” that TAPE Inc. has to him. Vic Sotto also said during the first phase of the conflict with the show’s management that his unpaid talent fee has reached millions. Eventually, Bossing said that TAPE paid for it.
In a recent article in Pilipino Star Ngayon, it was rumored that TAPE Inc. has to pay P800 million to GMA. Writer Leon Guerrero shared that this is something the production company is addressing now.
“True ba na almost P800M ang naiwang utang sa GMA ng dating Eat Bulaga? ‘Yan daw ang inaayos ngayon ng mga Jalosjos sa GMA bago mag-renewal o kung ano man ang decision after the expiration ng contract ng TAPE Inc. sa December,” the writer shared.
