Who are the dependents of an SSS member?
The dependents or the primary beneficiaries of a Social Security System member are the following:
- legal spouse until he/she remarries
- legitimate, illegitimate, and legally adopted children of the deceased SSS member who are 21 years old and below, disabled, or cannot financially support themselves
In the absence of the primary beneficiaries, the benefit offer will be granted to the secondary beneficiaries — the dependent parents if the member is not married and has no children. If the parents are both deceased, it will be given to the dependent legal heir stated in the membership of the deceased member.
How much is the SSS Death Pension
The Death Pension amount that will be received by the beneficiaries of a deceased SSS member will be based on the highest result that will be yield by any of the following computations:
- 300 + (20% x AMSC) + (2% x AMSC) x (CYS – 10)
- 40% x AMSC
- minimum pension of Php 1,000 if CYS is below 10; Php 1,200 for 10 CYS; and Php 2,400 for 20 CYS
Aside from the Death Pension, the beneficiaries are also entitled to a 13th Month Pension given every December and a Funeral Grant for anyone who paid for the burial expenses of the deceased member.
In case the SSS member was not able to post 36 monthly contributions at the time of his/her death, the beneficiaries may qualify to the SSS Death Lump Sum.
