Lady Consumer Airs Dismay After Receiving P134,000 Electric Bill, Although Their Electricity was Disconnected
A lady consumer was shocked when they received an electric bill amounting to over P134,000, even though their electricity had been disconnected.
In Manila, a female consumer was surprised when they received their electric bill amounting to over P134,000. Their electricity had been disconnected since the pandemic due to the inability to pay. Meralco, the electric company, is currently investigating the incident.
The consumer identified as Mariz Acebron, a resident of Gawad Kalinga Village in Baseco Compound, shared that they couldn’t settle their P9,000 electric bill at home, resulting in disconnection. They resorted to using electricity from a neighboring relative just to power two lights and a small electric fan.
However, before the staggering P134,000 bill arrived, they also received a bill for August of the previous year amounting to P24,000.
“P24,000 po. Bigla na lang po itong sumulpot ‘yung last year, mga September. Bakit kami magkaka-bill eh matagal nang putol ‘yung kuryente?” Acebron questioned.
Acebron reached out to Meralco, who assured them they would investigate the issue. However, despite the promise of a follow-up, they allegedly received no email communication from the company. After filing a complaint, the consumer didn’t receive subsequent bills, assuming the issue had been resolved.
Until December, the company weas blindsided by the electric bill amounting to P134,000. “Ibig sabihin ‘yung September, October, November, nasaan po ‘yung resibo na bill na po ‘yun? Wala po kaming natanggap,” she reiterated.
According to Meralco’s bill, their meter started registering again from August. “Sana po malinis po itong P134,000 na hindi naman po kami ang gumamit,” she added.
Initial investigations revealed that their line seemed to have been reconnected. Meralco vowed to investigate the complaint and work with Acebron to resolve billing issues.
