Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins narrowly avoided ejection as he defended his player in an altercation with LeBron James during Memphis’ 127-113 victory over the Lakers. Visibly upset about the scuffle, Jenkins rushed onto the court, causing the game to momentarily stop.
After the game, he apologized to Lakers head coach Darvin Ham for his emotional reaction. The incident unfolded in the third quarter when Marcus Smart attempted to pass the ball to Jaren Jackson, who was posting up against James.
The struggle for control ensued, with James ultimately gaining possession and seemingly making contact with Jackson’s face using his elbow or forearm. Jenkins, assessed a technical foul, passionately protested the no-call by flailing his arms and crossing the court during play, disrupting the Lakers’ fast break.
Despite being surrounded by fellow coaches and players, he continued to express his frustration even after receiving the technical foul. Fans were astonished that James wasn’t penalized for what appeared to be a hit to Jackson Jr.’s face, based on the video.
