Government Employee Elicits Criticisms for Assaulting Taxi Driver During Road Rage
ROAD RAGE INCIDENT – A government employee allegedly assaulted a taxi driver during a traffic altercation in Taguig City.
A taxi driver named Celso Delos Santos was left with a swollen left eye after being punched by a government employee motorist. The incident took place on McKinley Road as Delos Santos was on his way to a shopping mall on Friday (January 5, 2024)
Taguig police’s initial investigation states that the taxi driver accidentally cut into the lane of the male suspect, who was driving a Toyota Fortuner. The vehicle’s sudden braking nearly caused the suspect’s wife to hit the dashboard, leading to the suspect’s anger.
The government employee then followed the taxi driver from McKinley Road to the mall. Upon dropping off his passenger, the taxi driver was confronted by the Fortuner driver, leading to a heated exchange.
Delos Santos explained that he tried to avoid the situation by stepping out of his taxi. However, the government employee accused him of reckless driving and continued to follow him.
“Binaba ko yung pasahero. Mamaya nakita ko na lang na dumikit na sa akin yung Fortuner… tapos kinumpronta niya ‘ko: ‘P*** i** mo ang tanda-tanda mo na pero ‘di ka pa rin marunong mag-maneho,” Delos Santos said.
The CCTV footage captured security guards from the mall intervening to separate the drivers. However, as the taxi driver left his vehicle, he was punched and kicked by the government employee. The mall guards stepped in to prevent further escalation.
The taxi driver claimed that he was verbally abused by the suspect, despite trying to explain the situation. The government employee allegedly splashed with juice on his face and poured water on him.
The victim expressed gratitude to the mall security guards and the police for their quick response. Despite the suspect’s attempt to settle the issue, the taxi driver plans to file charges against him.
