On December 21, 2023, a law enforcement agency conducted an entrapment operation leading to the arrest of an online seller of fireworks in Caloocan City. Even delivery personnel transporting fireworks face the risk of arrest and prosecution, according to police statements.
Another individual involved in the online sale of fireworks was apprehended in a separate operation on December 19, 2023, after falling into a trap set by undercover operatives.
Authorities are currently seeking statements from the arrested individuals as part of their ongoing investigation.
The police emphasize the prohibition of selling any kind of fireworks online, stating that such sellers do not possess the necessary licenses from the Philippine National Police (PNP) due to safety concerns.
“Hindi sila binigyan ng PNP ng lisensiya para magbenta dahil ang PNP ay hindi nila pagbibigyan yung mga tao na magbenta sa online because of safety issues,” PNP-ACG Cyber Response Unit Chief Police Colonel Jay Guillermo explained.
Guillermo explained the difficulty in ensuring the quality of fireworks when purchased online, advising the public to purchase only from authorized physical stores.
Police Colonel Jean Fajardo, PIO Chief of the PNP, further emphasized that online platforms are being closely monitored to apprehend individuals involved in the illegal online sale of fireworks.
According to reports, sellers, buyers, and delivery personnel involved in the online purchase of fireworks will face similar penalties. Those proven guilty could be subjected to imprisonment ranging from six months to one year and fines ranging from P20,000 to P30,000.
The crackdown on online fireworks sales is part of the authorities’ efforts to maintain public safety and prevent accidents related to substandard or illegal fireworks.
