Vic Sotto has this statement about the Eat Bulaga trademark
Veteran comedian-host Vic Sotto was asked if he is ready to forgive amid the Eat Bulaga trademark issue and here’s what he said.
Vic is one of the members of the iconic TVJ trio with Tito Sotto and Joey de Leon. The latter created the Eat Bulaga title but the right to use this was refuted by TAPE Inc. which argued that the right belongs to the production company behind the show.
Just recently, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) favored the TVJ but TAPE Inc. is not yet giving up and they are exploring all legal possibilities to reverse the decision.
When TVJ transferred to TV5, they weren’t able to bring with them the Eat Bulaga title, as well as the famous theme song of the show. Vic Sotto shared the story of how he was able to create the jingle or theme song of the longest-running noontime show, based on the article in Pang-Masa.
The veteran comedian-host shared that he was in the bathroom when he was thinking about the melody of the song and how Eat Bulaga would fit into it. Bossing Vic even sang the different melodies he thought of. He also shared that the theme song went through three to four revisions.
When asked if he is ready to give his forgiveness, the EAT host said it is not a matter of forgiving but the appropriateness. “Usapang moral ito at walang kailangang patawarin. Ilagay lang sa tama ang lahat,” Vic Sotto said.
Meanwhile, despite IPOPHIL’s decision, the Kapuso noontime show is still using the Eat Bulaga title. TAPE Inc. also expressed that they hope the TVJ and the legit Dabarkads will not use the title yet before the release of the decision of their appeal.
