Super Grandmaster Wesley So is set to compete against his rival Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen in the Grand Finals of the Champions Chess Tour.
So is set to progress to the Grand Finals of the Champions Chess Tour, scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, from December 9 to 16. The 29-year-old player is anticipated to face off against the reigning world no. 1, Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen of Norway.
The competition, featuring a prize fund of $500,000, will bring together eight formidable grandmasters, including Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura of the USA, as well as Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Alireza Firouzja from France. GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan and GM Denis Lazavik of Belarus will also be in contention.
Hailing from Cavite, So recently secured third place in the Grand Chess Tour circuit – Sinquefield Cup (Rapid), earning 4.5 points and finishing just one point behind the champion, Caruana. With the significant prize money at stake, So is diligently preparing for the upcoming competition.

In the Northern Division, defending champions Pasig City King Pirates will face off against the formidable San Juan Predators, both teams from Metro Manila with impressive season records of 23 wins and only 2 losses.
