Thousands of Filipinos are pensioners of the Government Service Insurance System, one of the state-run social insurance giants in the Philippines. The members of the GSIS are individuals who are working or have worked in the government.
When retirement comes, a GSIS member is given several options with regards to the Retirement Program that they want to choose. Some of the programs offer pension while others provide a lump sum of the savings of the retiring member.
In the case of the GSIS pensioners, every December, most of them receive a GSIS Christmas Cash Gift on top of their monthly pension. It is offered to old-age and disability pensioners under the following retirement programs who have been receiving regular monthly pension for at least five (5) years already:
- Republic Act 8291
- Republic Act 660
- Presidential Decree 1146
How much does GSIS give to pensioners as Christmas cash gift? According to the state-run social insurance institution, pensioners whose previous Christmas Cash Gift was above Php 10,000 are given an amount equivalent to their one-month pension but not over Php 12,600.
With regards to pensioners whose previous Christmas cash gift is Php 10,000 and below, they are given an amount equivalent to a one-month pension but not above Php 10,000.
To continuously avail the GSIS Christmas Cash Gift every December, a pensioner must renew his/her active status during his/her birth month. Every end of the year, the state-run social insurance giant releases billions for the cash gift of the qualified pensioners who are the following:
- old-age and disability pensioners under the Republic Act 8291, Republic Act 660, and Presidential Decree 1146 who have been receiving regular monthly pension for at least five (5) years already
