Referee Suspended after Missed Calling Foul for Elbow on Kyt Jimenez

Referee who Missed Calling Foul on Kyt Jimenez After Elbow Suspended

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has suspended the referee who missed calling foul on San Miguel Beermen (SMB) rookie Kyt Jimenez after being hit by elbow.

Jimenez received a blowout fracture at the boundary between his eyes and nose. Kyt, in a Facebook post, expressed gratitude to his supporters and urged fans not to engage with those criticizing his injury.

Additionally, he thanked the San Miguel Beerman for their care. The team’s manager, Gee Abanilla, disclosed that Jimenez sustained the injury during a game against Meralco when Cliff Hodge’s elbow struck his face, causing a fracture near the nasal bone and eye socket.

Abanilla stated that there’s no set timeline for Jimenez’s return, emphasizing a cautious approach due to the nature of the injury involving the eyes. Jimenez, selected as the No. 76 pick in the PBA Season 48 draft, made his debut in the victory against Meralco, contributing 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in his limited 12 minutes of play.

Unfortunately, his time on the court was cut short after a foul by Cliff Hodge. It’s worth recalling that Jimenez had previously been injured in the first game against Meralco in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Meanwhile, the PBA referee who failed to call a foul on Cliff Hodge for the elbow incident that led to Jimenez’s injury has been suspended, according to Commissioner Willie Marcial. The league noted that the referee should have called an offensive foul.

Based on the report, the incident could have been reviewed for a potential upgrade to a flagrant foul infraction. This suspension followed another recent incident where the entire officiating crew of the Ginebra-Magnolia game was sanctioned for overlooking a crucial foul late in the Hotshots’ victory.
