One of the most popular medical assistance offers that countless Filipinos turn to nowadays is the OVP Medical Assistance. Provided by the Office of the Vice President, it aims to help poor and disadvantaged Filipinos amid health and medical situations.
The OVP Medical Assistance offer covers hospitalization, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Brachytherapy, and dialysis procedures. Filipinos in need of assistance for the purchase of medicines, assistive device, and medical equipment as well as in need of wheelchair may also apply for the offer.
The Office of the Vice President has set general requirements for all cases as well as specific requirements under certain cases in applying for the OVP Medical Assistance offer. Here are the general requirements:
- duly-accomplished and signed Medical Application Form
- original Copy of the Social Case Study Report or Certificate of Indigency/ Eligibility
- original/Certified Copy of Medical Records
- photocopy of one (1) valid Identification Card (ID) of Patient
- original Valid ID of Senior Citizen (SC) / Persons with Disability (PWD) ID of the patient and Purchase Booklet
Here are the additional requirements for OVP Medical Assistance per case type:
Hospitalization
- If the patient is still confined in the hospital, submit the the latest Statement of Account after the PhilHealth Benefits and other mandatory discounts have been deducted from the bill.
- If the patient has been discharged, submit updated Statement of Account and Promissory Note signed by the authorized hospital officer/s and the patient/authorized representative.
Chemotherapy / Radiation Therapy / Brachytherapy
- Treatment Protocol with cost breakdown issued by the attending physician
- must be signed by the physician with license number
- dated not more than three (3) months prior to the date of application
Medicines / Implant / Medical Equipment / Assistive Device
- Price Quotation from an OVP Service Provider or any service provider that is willing to accept Guarantee Letters
- Prescription issued by the attending physician
- must indicate license number and contact details of the physician
- dated not more than three (3) months prior to the date of the application
- Authorization letter signed by the patient, if the patient will not be able to personally receive the medicine/implant/medical equipment/assistive device
Diagnostic Procedure
- Preferred in Gov’t Hospital, provide justification for private institutions
Dialysis
- Certification that PhilHealth benefits have been exhausted
Wheelchair
- Handwritten Personal Letter by the patient addressed to the OVP/ Vice President
- Certification from the attending physician citing the need for wheelchair
The Office of the Vice President will only process applications submitted with complete requirements. The OVP has also clarified that certain conditions may not be covered by the Medical Assistance offer.
