President Marcos Reminds Filipinos Not To Engage in Vote Buying After Casting His Vote Early for 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. cast his vote early for the 2023 Barangay Elections and reminded Filipinos not to engage in vote buying.

On Monday (October 30, 2023), President Bongbong Marcos dressed in a blue polo visited Precinct 0036A at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Elementary School (MMMES) in Lacub, Batac City, Ilocos Norte to cast his vote for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Marcos emphasized the essential role that the barangay elections play in shaping the political landscape, not only at the local level but also in the context of upcoming national elections while facing media members.

President Marcos

“I cannot overstate the importance of the result of the barangay elections. It’s very simple, I mean, the political dynamics is very simple. If halimbawa you are running for mayor, and the majority of the barangay officials are on your side, are helping you, ay talagang malaking bagay ‘yun. It will make it much easier to be elected in the local level,” Marcos said.

The Philippine president also reminded the Filipino people not to waste their right to pick barangay officials. He also urged the public not to engage in vote buying as these officials are the individuals they will rely on during times of need.

“Ang payo ko lang sa ating mga kababayan, huwag niyong itatapon ang inyong karapatan na makapili ng inyong mga barangay official, dahil alam niyo naman na ang mga barangay official ang mga kaharap ninyo araw-araw. Ito ang mga tinatakbuhan ninyo para makatulong sa inyong problema,” Marcos said.

The nation’s leader also acknowledged reports of vote-buying incidents in Ilocos Norte and promptly directed authorities to investigate and address the issue, reiterating the government’s commitment to enforcing laws that prohibit vote-buying during the campaign period.
